Daniele Sambo is a Venetian artist who works with photography living in Glasgow, Scotland. With a background in urban and landscape planning and design, he has in recent years developed an interest in public art and photography’s role as a vehicle for change.
Before studying Photography at the Glasgow School of Art (2010) he obtained a BSc in Urban and Landscape planning at the IUAV University of Venice. Public space, participation, common good, sustainability are some of the themes that since then feed his interest and research as well as motivates his work as a photographer and an artist.
His practice revolves around social and environmental issues such as the interjections between monumental and functional proprieties of objects in the public sphere. With a specific focus on the different ways nature brings people together, he often looks for a direct exchange of knowledge and dialogue, where the processes are very often concerned with how the work, always site specific, interjects and discusses communities and spaces. While photographic prints are very often included as part of the final artwork, exhibited on walls, included in small books and publications, his working process often use images as a tool for the generation of ideas, dialogue and primary research. Daniele's practice is sometimes on the edge of what is strictly considered photography, creating bridges and merging dynamics, which have to do with socially engaged practice, public art and sculpture.
